Segway Inc completes strategic combination with Ninebot

Segway, Inc. announced today that it has merged with Ninebot.

Segway, Inc. is the world’s leading provider of personal electronic transportation, and says the combined company will focus on research and development, manufacturing, sales and service in the short-distance transportation industry, with the goal of promoting the rapid development of that industry and leading the revolution of mobile robotics solutions. Both Ninebot and Segway will continue to operate under their existing brand names. According to Rod Keller, President of Segway:

“After the strategic combination, Ninebot and Segway will be able to cooperate closely with each other on technology and marketing, strengthening their research and development, manufacturing, marketing and sales capabilities. Intelligent hardware has grown quickly worldwide during the past several years. Our combination with Ninebot will enable us to provide more intelligent and valuable products to our customers. We are confident in our future.”

Segway is best-known for its iconic two-wheeled, self-balancing Personal Transporter (PT). The PT range was updated last year with new i2 SE and x2 SE models. Also in 2014 Segway released a brand new a three-wheeled solution for security, police and public safety called the SE-3. In early 2015 Segway began selling a range of mountain, trekking and urban eBikes (aka power-assisted pedal bikes). Other products include Robotic Mobility Platforms in a wide variety of configurations that are used in research, commercial and military roles.

Segway New Zealand continues as the official Distributor of Segway products, and welcomes today’s news. Today, we are the longest-established international distributor of Segway products in the world. We began importing Segway products in 2003 – just a few months after they were first released in USA.

The Segway Personal Transporter (PT) continues to be manufactured in Bedford, New Hampshire in the United States. Servicing continues to be carried out locally by ourselves and our Agents (BodyElectric in Wellington and Urban Wheels in Christchurch), and regionally by the official Segway Service Centre in Singapore.
